Volunteer Spotlight: Jenna Ross

At Volunteer Legal Advocates, our pro bono attorneys bring their expertise and passion to every case and clinic they take on. In our new Volunteer Spotlight series, you’ll meet some of the pro bono advocates we’re honored to work with. Together, we’re ending the cycle of violence for survivors and children through pro bono legal aid.
Today, we’re thrilled to introduce you to Jenna Ross, Ericsson’s Senior Investigations Counsel and past Chair of the Volunteer Legal Advocates Junior Board.
Thanks so much for talking with us, Jenna! Can you share a brief overview of your professional experience?
I’m an attorney with experience in internal investigations, white-collar defense, and corporate compliance, with a focus on the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA). Currently, I serve as Senior Investigations Counsel at Ericsson, working on global internal investigations and advising on compliance matters.
Previously, I spent nearly eight years at King & Spalding, representing multinational companies in high-stakes investigations and enforcement actions involving the DOJ and SEC. Earlier in my career, I served in the DOJ’s FCPA Unit, where I investigated and prosecuted international corruption cases.
How did you learn about Volunteer Legal Advocates, and what inspired you to get involved?
I first learned about Volunteer Legal Advocates nearly a decade ago through the pro bono partner at King & Spalding, who knew I was interested in supporting survivors of domestic violence. He encouraged me to get involved with the organization, and I soon began volunteering. I was inspired to deepen my commitment after seeing how unique the organization is in providing volunteers with meaningful guidance and support through supervising attorneys—something that sets it apart and ensures high-quality advocacy. When the attorney liaison at the firm stepped down, I joined the Volunteer Legal Advocates Junior Board and later served as Junior Board Chair for over four years.
Can you share any specific moments from your time with Volunteer Legal Advocates that stand out to you?
Before and during the pandemic, I volunteered every other Friday at the legal advice clinic. I was deeply impressed by how seamlessly Volunteer Legal Advocates transitioned from an in-person to a virtual model to continue serving clients without interruption. The need during that time was overwhelming. I was especially moved by the challenges our clients faced—grappling with illness, job loss, and widespread uncertainty, and the urgent need to protect themselves and their children through Civil Protection Orders (CPOs). It was a powerful reminder of the organization’s critical role in times of crisis.
How has your experience with Volunteer Legal Advocates shaped your career or perspective on the legal system?
My experience with Volunteer Legal Advocates has made me a passionate advocate for pro bono work. As a Senior Associate at King & Spalding, I often reminded junior associates that there’s no excuse for not meeting their pro bono hours each year. As attorneys—whether in law firms or in-house—I believe we have a responsibility to use our legal skills in service of the public. Volunteering is not only a way to give back, but working with an organization like Volunteer Legal Advocates allows us to see the immediate and meaningful impact our efforts have on individuals and the broader community.
What do you wish others knew about Volunteer Legal Advocates and/or providing pro bono legal services for survivors and children?
I want prospective volunteers to know that Volunteer Legal Advocates offers a unique and supportive model. By pairing each volunteer with a supervising attorney, the organization ensures you never navigate a case alone—you have an experienced resource by your side every step. I’ve worked with other pro bono organizations where you’re handed a case with little guidance, but that’s not the approach here. Volunteer Legal Advocates fosters collaboration and confidence. Providing pro bono legal services to survivors and their children is also deeply meaningful. These are some of the most vulnerable members of our community. Offering them support during such critical moments is both impactful and profoundly rewarding.
