Celebrating Our Volunteers: September Highlights
This September, our committed volunteer attorneys selflessly offered their time, expertise, and empathy to uplift our community. Whether assisting survivors in securing protection orders or advocating for children’s rights in court, their work has had a powerful impact on countless lives. We’re proud to celebrate these remarkable attorneys and commend their unwavering dedication to pro bono legal service. Their efforts play a vital role in building safer, more hopeful futures for those most in need.

SEPTEMBER KUDOS
Supporting Survivors of Domestic Violence
- David Kanstoroom – Zealously represented a domestic violence survivor client, resulting in the entry of a Final Protective Order providing safety and peace of mind for his client.
- Patience Tyne (Hogan Lovells LLP) – Provided outstanding representation of her domestic violence survivor client. With Patience’s help, the client got a custody order giving her sole legal and physical custody of the child-in-common.
- Bailey Arenberg (Knobbe Martens) – Represented her domestic violence survivor client well and did a great job responding to the judge’s questions.
- Thayer Ellis (Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP) – Helped her domestic violence survivor client obtain a 2-year Civil Protection Order.
Advocating for Children
- Annique Roberts and Tyra Richmond (Latham & Watkins LLP) – Provided excellent representation of three children as Guardians ad litem that resulted in a private consent agreement that is in the children’s best interest and gives both parents meaningful access to the children.
Pursuing Justice in the Courtroom
- Shane Bryan (Ropes & Gray LLP) – Stayed at the courthouse all day to assist the parties with the attorney negotiator session and a final permanent agreement!
- Ted Alexander (Ropes & Gray LLP) — Despite being extremely pressed for time, he put together a good default trial. He is kind and communicates well with the client.
Going Above & Beyond
- Anne Bonfiglio (U.S. Department of Labor)—Anne did an amazing job staying in contact with the client, especially since the client has been very nervous and debating the next steps. Anne has been very compassionate and available throughout this process.
- Karen Marcou – Was a fantastic volunteer! She is very bonded with the client and extremely well prepared.
- Sharelle Love – Did an excellent job in preparing the client for this hearing; her hearing preparation materials were spot on. Her kindness, compassion, and gentle way created an excellent rapport with our client.
