Volunteer Legal Advocates Welcomes Meg McKinney to the Board of Directors

We are thrilled to welcome Meg McKinney to the Volunteer Legal Advocates Board of Directors! A dedicated family law attorney and longtime champion of our mission, Meg brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to ensuring that survivors and families have the legal support they deserve.
Sharing her excitement about joining the Board, Meg said: “I’m truly honored to join the Board of Directors of Volunteer Legal Advocates. As a family law attorney, I see every day how vital access to legal representation and justice is, regardless of financial circumstances. This organization’s growth has been inspiring, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to further its mission in this new leadership role.”
Meg is a principal at Lerch Early & Brewer, Chtd., where she co-chairs the Family Law Practice Group. She has practiced family law in Washington, D.C. and Maryland for 33 years and has generously provided training and mentoring to Volunteer Legal Advocates for over a decade.
Before joining Lerch Early & Brewer, Meg founded and led several boutique family law firms for 24 years. Throughout her career, she has been a strong advocate for holistic solutions and wrap-around services for parties and children experiencing domestic violence.
Her contributions to the legal community have earned her numerous honors. For over 15 years, Meg has been named a Top Family Law Attorney by Washingtonian Magazine. In 2024, she was recognized as Family Lawyer of the Year by the D.C. Bar Family Law Community, and she has twice been named Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers for Mediation in Washington, D.C.
Meg’s commitment to service extends well beyond her practice. She has served on the board of the Children’s Law Center, completed two terms on the D.C. Bar Pro Bono Committee, and contributed her expertise to both the D.C. Child Support Guideline Commission and the Maryland Child Support Advisory Committee. She is also a member of the William Bryant Inn of Court and an active member of the Metro Bethesda Rotary Club, where she leads youth programs.
Meg received both her J.D. (with honors) and her B.A. (magna cum laude) from The George Washington University.
Looking Ahead
We are grateful for Meg’s leadership, generosity, and unwavering dedication to justice. Please join us in celebrating her appointment to the Board and welcoming her into this new role of helping to guide and strengthen Volunteer Legal Advocates.
